After visiting the Phrygia Zoo in Tunisia, visitors can visit a themed dinner with national Zulu and Tunisian dances. About the zoo we told in the article " Zoo Phrygia ", and on this page we will tell in detail about the dinner and show.
Dinner and shows are held in the big restaurant "Shaka" near the entrance to the zoo. The restaurant can hold up to 450 guests. Named after the famous leader named Shaka (or Chuck), who ruled the Zulu tribes in the late 18th and early 19th centuries, it was he who made the Zulus the dominant tribe in southern Africa.
The building of the restaurant is very interesting, it repeats in shape the traditional hut of the Zulus. The only difference is that the Zulu's dwelling was no more than 4 meters in height, while Shack's restaurant is more than 10 meters high. Guests in the restaurant sit at large tables for six people each.
For entourage organizers of this entertainment can put a solid five. Next, we'll tell you in detail about the composition of the dishes, and after that we'll talk about the entertainment program.
Composition of dishes for dinner
It's almost a traditional Tunisian dinner. Firstly , a vegetable salad is served, then lentil soup chorba, then a brisk , then couscous with chicken and ice cream for dessert. Everything is cooked delicious according to traditional recipes.
Dinner causes tourists only positive emotions, except for one moment. When served couscous, on top of the pieces of chicken. So couscous should look like, see the photo on the left, click on the photo to enlarge. Number of pieces by the number of guests sitting at the table. These pieces need somehow distributed - to whom what piece. We wish not to quarrel at this moment of supper.
Drinks during dinner without restrictions. If the bottle of cola on the table is over, feel free to call the waiter and ask for a new one.
From Tunisian alcohol only wine is served, but without restrictions. Wine to choose from: red, pink, white. Alcohol without restrictions provokes some tourists who leave Phrygia under strong "doping". This is especially true for tourists who came to Tunisia not on All Inclusive.
Important note! The composition of dishes can vary according to the decision of the restaurant administration without prior notification.
The first entertainment of visitors is already waiting at the entrance, there is a small musical ensemble with traditional Tunisian instruments. You can watch the video in our article " Music of Tunisia ".
Guests sit down on the tables and there is another entertainment. A Zulu comes to every guest at the table behind the table, and his colleague takes a photo. They try to make a photo in such a way that the visitor does not notice it. Sometimes it turns out just great, when the painted face of the Zulu as it emerges from the darkness to the visitor.
These photos are printed and hung on the stands at the entrance to the end of the show. You can buy your photo for a modest sum of 10 Tunisian dinars . By the way, to find your photo from several hundred on the stand is another entertainment.
When all the visitors are at the tables, the show begins. It consists of playing Zulu on drums, African dances with shields, drums and the like. There are also purely Tunisian numbers: a dance with pots and a female dance.
Dancing African dancers really fun, you can see the love of your work. They do not show any acrobatics, they just feel the rhythm well. At the end of the show everyone is invited to dance.
From the national Tunisian art, the most interesting is the dance with pots, when the dancer puts on his head an ordinary ceramic pot during the dance, then the second, third and so on. Pots as an element of dance are not accidental, because Tunisian ceramics is one of the pride of the country.
The more pots a dancer can hold simultaneously during a dance, the more skillful he is. In Phrygia they show a dance with four pots. In hotels there are artists who show five or even six.
Tourists with a rich outlook have the question: "What do the Zulus do in Tunisia?" The Zulu tribe lives in South Africa, between Tunisia and South Africa the distance is 8,000 kilometers. It turns out that the Zulus have about the same attitude to Tunisia as the Muscovites to Japan (the distance is about the same).
Tips for visitors
- After the show, tourists board buses for a trip back to the hotels. And landing occurs simultaneously. It's easy to get confused, and what bus is ours? Each tour bus has a room. Remember the number of your bus, so as not to get lost and not to leave, for example, to Sousse instead of Hammamet (these two resorts are from Phrygia in opposite directions).
- Excursion to the zoo Phrygia is in two versions: with a visit to the dolphinarium or with dinner and Zulu show. Tourists often ask about whether it is possible to get to both the dolphinarium and dinner for one excursion?
We answer. Can. To do this, buy an excursion with a visit to the dinner and Zulu show, and buy a ticket for the dolphin show. At the end of the show, dinner begins. The only big disadvantage, in the zoo itself, for an inspection of the animals will be about an hour, and if the bus lingers on the way, then even less time.
- If you are at a distant table, and want to see the show from a close distance, do not be discouraged. There are many columns in the hall, stand in front of one of them. So you yourself can closely look at the dances, and others will not interfere. The inside of the restaurant can be seen in the photo on the right, click on the photo to enlarge.
- You can not smoke inside the restaurant, but you can go out and immediately there will be a place for smoking.
- Waiters do not know the Russian language, use gestures, they guys are intelligent.
Do you go to the Zulu show with children?
This is a difficult question. All the children are different, one of the kids happily "lights up" with the Zulu, but somebody scares the action and gives cause for self-indulgence.
There is no universal council. In our subjective opinion, with children under 3 years it is better to refrain from this trip. With older children, go.
