Miniatures Park in Klagenfurt
This park will be very interesting for those tourists who want to see many sights, but not particularly picky about the size. In this case, you can save a lot of money, on an area of 25,000 square meters, there are more than 150 miniatures of the famous buildings of the world at a scale of 1:25.
Children are especially interesting here, real ships are floating in the park, although they are miniature, and on the rails there are real steam locomotives, also on a scale of 1 to 25.
Immediately we hasten to warn that more than half of the miniatures belong to Austria, and there is not a single model from Russia here. Many Russian tourists are disappointed, and Ukrainian, on the contrary, are happy, because from their country there are just two miniature attractions.
In the morning the park starts at 9-00 and closes at 18-00 in April, at 19-00 in May, June and September and at 20-00 in August.
It is necessary to plan a visit to the Miniimundus miniature park in the summer, as for the winter it is closed and dismantled almost completely, the exhibits are taken to different exhibitions and they can be seen not only in Klagenfurt (permanent place) but also in other cities of Austria and Germany.
Of course, in this article we will not be able to tell about all the exhibits, so we will show only the most interesting ones, and you decide for yourself whether it is worth spending your time and money on visiting this place.
The first thing you see at the entrance to the park is a large globe, the main "visiting card" of the landmark and the only exhibit in the park, not made to scale 1 to 25.
Immediately after the entrance you will see a large pond in which miniature ships float and a real fish is found. Fish are not so many, they still need to be looked for, and the boats can be seen right away. You can not touch them, there is a special warning about this.
And then we are waiting for the first model, which you just found out, is the Statue of Liberty. The original is in New York, in the USA.
The height of the original is 93 meters, a good chance to check the scale accuracy of 1:25. The height of the layout should be equal to 3.72 meters, which corresponds to reality. Even on this photo you can see that this is really so.
The statue is set on an island in New York, called the "Island of Freedom", it was donated to the Americans by France in honor of the centennial of the proclamation of US independence. She met all immigrants arriving in New York, symbolizing for them a new life in the New World.
The model is quite accurate, but not completely. Many small details are present, for example, the inscription on the book "JULY IV MDCCLXXVI", this is the date of signing the Declaration of Independence of the United States. But something is not there, in the original statue a torch of a completely different form, a simple light bulb was given to the mock-up in hands.
From America we will transfer (of course, virtually) to sunny Greece. Many people know this temple, but not many remember what it's called. No wonder, the name is complex, it's the Parthenon.
Once it was the main temple of the city of Athens, it was dedicated to the goddess Athena. In general, very similar, with only one difference. The original was made of local marble, which was mined near the city. This is not the best marble and it turns yellow under the influence of the sun.
The original Parthenon has long acquired a yellow tint, and the layout was left white. Whether this is done on purpose, or simply the creators did not take into account this fact, we do not know. The difference is striking at first sight.
The following attraction we described in detail on the pages of our site, if you are interested in this temple, read our article about the excursion to Abu Simbel .
This temple was built in the very south of Egypt by Pharaoh Ramses II. All four statues depict him.
We will not talk about how accurately it is recreated, in our article about the temples of Ramses and Nefertari in Abu Simbel there are many photos. Let's just say that the color is not the same, the original temple is carved into a sand-colored rock, and the miniature is clearly gray.
The next building causes great confusion among visitors, it looks very original, and no one knows what it is. At first glance it seems that it is somehow connected with Thailand or Cambodia, indeed some notes of Angkor Wat or Ayutthaya can be seen right away. You can see a photo from the ancient city of Ayutthaya in our article about it .
But this building has no relation to Asia. This is the Catholic Church "Church of the Holy Family", which is located in Spain in the city of Barcelona. Probably, this is the biggest long-term construction in Europe, it began to be built as far back as 1883 and is still being built. The completion of the construction of the temple is planned for 2026. A miniature shows the state for 2010.
The next temple is already Orthodox and is in Kiev, it's St. Sophia Cathedral. Residents of Ukraine see it almost every day, because it is depicted on a bill of 2 hryvnia.
This cathedral was built by Prince Yaroslav the Wise in the 11th century, but has since been rebuilt, the miniature depicts a modern version of the St. Sophia Cathedral, and quite accurately.
The next attraction is well recognized by all tourists, although not all remember exactly what this building is called. This is the Taj Mahal, and this is not a palace, but rather a burial vault where the Shah Jahan and his wife are buried. Although his wife, her name was Mumtaz Mahal, should be said in the first place, since the Taj Mahal was built in her memory, and the padishah was buried here later.
This is one of the main attractions of India, not quite Indian. Taj Mahal was built by a Muslim ruler and was not only a burial vault, but a mosque, you see four minarets in the photo. In the 16th century, India was conquered by Muslims, whom the Indians themselves call the Moguls (we ask not to be confused with the Mongols, nothing in common), they ruled the country until the 19th century, and the Shah Jahan was one of the brightest rulers of this period.
The next landmark is known to everyone, it is impossible to recognize the Great Wall of China, the miniature turned out perfectly, in our opinion it is the best in the Minimundus Park. We will not evaluate the quality of the performance, it's easier for us to give you a link to our article about the Chinese wall , in the photo galleries on our website there are more than 200 photos.
This ends China's sights, despite the great cultural heritage. The fact that China and Egypt were awarded only one miniature seems to us a bit strange. We hope that everything will change, the collection of miniatures in Klagenfurt is constantly replenished.
This pyramid is familiar to many, but it is difficult to remember the ornate name for tourists. It is a pyramid in the city of Chichen Itza, which was the capital of the Mayan Empire. The pyramid was used as a temple, an observatory and on it sacrificed, sometimes human.
Many people think that this building is very ancient, but this is not so, the city of Chichen Itza was built around the 8th century AD, for example, the Great Pyramids in Giza are 4 times older.
The civilization of the ancient Maya is the most mysterious on earth, since their writing is not yet deciphered. Sources of knowledge about them is not enough, as zealous missionaries from Europe fanatically destroyed any manifestations of their culture. The biggest collection of their writing is in the Dominican Republic in the Columbus lighthouse , we have a photo, you can see how their characters look. And the pyramid itself is in Mexico.
In the very center of the Minimundus Park there is something that attracts the attention of children (both small children and grown children), a miniature railway. There are real steam locomotives on this steam traction, only in scale 1 to 25.
On the territory there are many more models of trains, ships, planes and cars, all this is very interesting to see. Each exhibit has a sign with information, but, unfortunately, there are no inscriptions in the Russian language. In order to also read about every attraction in the park, you need to know German, English, Italian or Slovenian. The border with Slovenia is close to Klagenfurt, there are many tourists from this country, so there are inscriptions in this language.
The next building is in the capital of Turkey in Istanbul. We call it the "Blue Mosque", and in other countries it is more often called the Sultan Ahmet Mosque. This is the most important symbol of Istanbul.
On this we finish our story, although we did not show a tenth of the miniatures of the Minimundus park in Klagenfurt. The rest of the exhibits you can see in our photo gallery , we hope you will all easily recognize them.
