Of course, we would not like to teach you to give bribes, but it is necessary. So, there are only two strategies for bribing. The first is that you put 10 dollars into your passport, and, holding out the documents to the hotel employee, clearly say that you need a room with pyramids.
The second strategy is simply to get in the room, and see if there is a sight. If not, then go to the "reception desk" and use the first strategy. Maybe you are lucky, maybe not. But in the second case, you run the risk that there will be no rooms with the right kind of view, everyone will be disassembled.
First of all, we'll tell you which of the pyramids is called, and whose tomb it was. Without this information, it will be difficult to talk about the great pyramids in Giza.
The first and largest pyramid was the tomb of Pharaoh Cheops. It is easy to recognize by its size, it is the tallest, 138.5 meters high.
The length of the sides of the base of this pyramid is just over 230 meters. At this point in our review, we must dwell on the first riddle of the pyramid.
The error in the side length of the pyramid does not exceed 30 centimeters. That is, the lengths of the sides are, of course, different, but the difference between the longest (southern) and the shortest (northern) does not exceed 30 centimeters. How the ancient Egyptians could build such an exact building - a mystery.
The second mystery is how the Egyptians could transport such large blocks to the construction site.
Sometimes this pyramid is called the "pyramid of Khufu", which is also absolutely true, Cheops and Khufu are one and the same pharaoh. Khufu is his Egyptian name, and the name of Cheops was appropriated to him by the Greek historian Herodotus. Which option is correct, it is difficult to say, since the language of ancient Egypt has not been spoken for a long time, it is impossible to establish the truth.
Cheops ruled around 2600-2500 BC. He was second in the 4th dynasty of the Egyptian pharaohs.
The second pyramid was the tomb of Pharaoh Khafra, the height of the pyramid is 136 meters.
This is the most colorful pyramid, and, rather, it is she who is the "calling card" of Giza. Visually it often seems that it is higher, but it is not, it is still the second.
Pay attention to the top, it still has a lining of soft limestone. The rest of the veneer was removed by local residents and allowed for building materials.
According to ancient records, each pyramid was very beautiful shining in the sun due to the lining. Now, the only glow can be observed only on the Khafra pyramid. Watch and imagine how it looked like before.
Khafra was the son of Cheops and the fourth pharaoh of the 4th dynasty.
The third large pyramid was the tomb of the fifth pharaoh of the 4th dynasty named Menkaur.
The pyramid is only 62 meters high, and by volume and weight it is ten times smaller than the pyramid of Cheops.
This pyramid was once the most beautiful of all, it was half lined with limestone, and half granite. Now this can only be read in ancient books, the cladding also went to building materials.
You probably noticed that the later the pyramid was built, the less it is. There is nothing surprising, the construction of such grandiose buildings required huge resources from Egypt, primarily human and financial. The fourth dynasty faded, and its possibilities decreased, the pyramids became smaller.
First of all, you can examine the pyramids from the outside.
The pyramid of Cheops is made up of 2.5 million stone blocks.
In the photo on the right you can estimate the size of the blocks, they are more than a meter in height. Not all blocks are the same, some more, some less.
Blocks are precisely adjusted to each other, and the space between them was poured with a special solution, which now can still be found if you look closely.
Each block weighs about 2.5 tons, you can try to imagine how the builders dragged them up.
Nobody forbids you to scramble to the very top, although we have not tried, perhaps the security service will be against it. First of all, stops the height of 140 meters. In the photo below we captured the view from below and all the way that we have to do.
For a fee, you can make an excursion inside the pyramid of Cheops. It is worth paying for it, or not, the question is complicated. On the one hand is not worth it, because there is nothing interesting inside. The interior of the pyramid has been plundered for a long time, everything valuable from there has been rendered long ago.
Inside, you will see only long passages and a funerary chamber.
The passage itself runs at an angle of about 45 degrees, it is very inconvenient to descend, it is even more inconvenient to climb back. Lighting inside is weak, almost nothing is visible.
Inside the burial chamber there was only a place where there used to be a sarcophagus.
Separate interest may be inscriptions on the walls, but do not think that one of the readers understands the ancient Egyptian writing.
All the valuable has long been taken from here, no ancient relics inside you will not find.
A large statue with the body of a lion and a human head next to the great pyramids of Giza is called the "Great Sphinx". Great because it is the largest sphinx of the sphinxes found.
Unlike the pyramids, which are composed of blocks, the sphinx is a monolithic statue, which is carved from the rock. The height of the statue is 20 meters, length is 73 meters.
First of all, our tourists are photographed with the Great Sphinx, and, of course, like this:
The Sphinx was buried for a long time under the sand, already at the reign of the 14th dynasty, only the head remained on the surface, perhaps in "troubled times" in Egypt there were many sandstorms. Completely this statue was dug out less than 100 years ago.
The purpose of this statue is not exactly established. Of course, this is a deity guarding the tombs, but what a deity, it is not exactly known. Scientists write a lot about the fact that the face of the Great Sphinx was copied from one of the pharaohs, but now it is already difficult to determine the truth.
Sometimes, there is a light show. For these purposes, floodlights are installed around the pyramids.
Unfortunately, he is satisfied only on major holidays. One of the holidays in which the show is exactly arranged is the end of the holy month of Ramadan.
If one of the readers really wants to see the show, then come on July 28th in 2014, July 18 in 2015 or July 6 in 2016.

In addition to the pyramids, hundreds of tombs were found on this territory that belonged to the relatives of the pharaoh, officials, priests and simply rich people. At the time of the 4th dynasty it was an elite cemetery.
In addition to the pyramids and the sphinx in Giza there is another extremely interesting attraction. Little is known about it, but it's worth a look. Pharaohs not only provided themselves with chic tombs, but also took care of their journey, hiding ships near the tombs. We do not know where they were going to sail, but the ships in disassembled form were found near the great pyramids of Giza.
A special museum was created for boats. The boats, which were found in disassembled form, were reassembled in the middle of the last century.
The museum can be accessed for a fee, and in our opinion there is even more interesting than inside the pyramid.
It's amazing how wooden boats could have been so well preserved, after all, 4,500 years have passed. They are made of cedar, which was very expensive in the time of the Pharaohs, and grew only in Palestine.
By the standards of ancient Egypt, the boat has a giant size, more than 40 meters in length and 5.5 meters in width.
This vessel was collected for 10 years, it can be called a "giant archaeological puzzle", in disassembled form it consisted of more than 1200 parts.
