Water Park AquaSplash (Sousse, Tunisia)
Aqua Park AquaSplash (translated literally as "Water Splash") was opened in the city of Sousse in May 2013. It was the first in Tunisia to have a large water park at the hotel. Before that, only water parks existed in the country (for example, Flipper) or at amusement parks ( AquaLand at Carthage Land Park in Hammamet and similar in Tunisia).
AquaSplash has become the largest water park in Tunisia, if measured by the number of slides, and it remains so now (note: this review was written in 2017). The AquaSplash park has its own advantages and disadvantages, as will be described in detail in this article.
Where to find and how to get there
AquaSplash Park is located in Thalassa Sousse Resort & Aquapark 4 * in Sousse. This hotel is owned by Thalassa Hotels Group, a local Tunisian company that owns three hotels in Sousse, Monastir and Mahdia.
If you have a rest at the resorts of Sousse or El Kantaoui , then the easiest way to get there is by taxi, the good thing in Tunisia is a cheap taxi . Even from the farthest from AquaSplash Hotel El Kantaoui get 15 kilometers, it's 15 minutes drive, a taxi costs 10 Tunisian dinars .
From the resorts of Monastir and Mahdia you can get to Sousse by train, between these three cities a modern railway is laid, trains run every 20-30 minutes. From the railway station to AquaSplash it is better to take a taxi for 4-5 dinars.
From the resorts of Nabeul , Hammamet and Yasmine Hammamet, you can get to Sousse by train, but it makes no sense, it's easier to go to the Flipper water park in Hammamet .
If you have a rest in South Tunisia - in Zarzis or on the island of Djerba , then it's better to forget about aquaparks in general, since AquaSplash, Flipper or Aqua Palace parks go for more than 5 hours, and local water parks in Southern Tunis have not yet been built.
The ticket costs:
- 45 Tunisian dinars for an adult (a growth of more than 1.2 meters).
- 35 Tunisian dinars for the child (from 0.8 to 1.2 meters).
- free for very young visitors (up to 0.8 meters).
Note that the concept of "adult" and "child" in the administration of the water park is very strange.
Opening hours and season
The AquaSplash Park operates from 10-00 to 17-00 every day. It opens in late May, closes at the end of September. It should be noted that the administration does not declare the exact dates of opening and closing, they can take any decision on this matter. The weather in Tunisia in May and October can be whimsical.
Let's start with the drawbacks, since there are more of them than the merits.
The first problem is that AquaSplash waterpark is strictly forbidden to bring any drinks and food. All this has to be bought on the spot. You can pay a "buffet" with a very meager set of snacks for 20 dinars per adult and 15 dinars per child.
The second problem is poor cleaning of showers, toilets, and generally not a great desire of staff to clean. However, this is the "trouble" of most Tunisian hotels.
The third problem is the high workload of the water park in the summer months. Naturally, the guests of the Thalassa Sousse Resort & Aquapark can use the water park without restrictions. They add "external" visitors. As a result, in June, July and August, you can not get through here, you do not have enough tubing at all (especially double ones), and you can stand up to 20 minutes in the queue for the hill.
In Tunisia, there is a shortage of water parks, both large separate and slides in hotels, hence similar problems arise.
The first is a large selection of slides, the widest range of water sports in the country.
The second - aqua park AquaSplash at the hotel, respectively, visitors are available to all the bars and restaurants of the hotel, but for a fee. There are four restaurants in the hotel: Italian, Thai, Lebanese and Tunisian cuisines. If you are hungry, we recommend going to a restaurant than paying for snacks 20 dinars.
AquaSplash is stylized under the theme "Caribs". Some elements confirm this: palms, thatched roofs on buildings. Frankly, stylization is seen badly, few tourists notice it, and even more so that tourists do not experience the sensation of a tropical paradise.
The main competitor
On the main competitor read our review " Aquapark Acqua Palace ". We will not try to give our assessment, which one is better, but leave the choice to our readers.
The number of attractions in AquaSplash is really a record for Tunisia, there are 14 of them.
Very long closed hill. The length is 97.5 meters, the total height is 10 meters. It is not recommended for those visitors who are afraid of enclosed spaces or are afraid to touch the wall with their foot or hand in the dark.
By the way, with high growth, the prospect of accidentally getting injured is quite real.
Recall that injuries in the water park are not covered by travel insurance in Tunisia , however, as in all other countries. Riding on water slides is considered an "extreme sport", insurance companies have their own concepts of "extreme", whose goal is to save on customers as much as possible.
In case of injury, the water park must pay for medical assistance.
Flying boat up the hill (Up Hill Flying Boats)
There is no boat in this attraction, do not look at the name. This is a hill with an additional lift in the middle. The height is 10 meters, the total length is 54.5 meters.
Descent on the waves (Wave Slide)
This is not a hill, but a large trench 3 meters wide, on which they roll up and down. Start from a height of 10 meters.
Falling in the tunnel and swirling slides (Tunnel Freefall, Twister 1 and 2)
Three closed slides. "Tunnel Freefall" is the most interesting, its height is 12 meters. You make a steep descent and ascent along the open part of the hill, and after that you dive into the closed part. The total length is 54 meters.
"Twister" - banal closed slides, the height of 9.2 meters and a length of 53 meters.
Kamikaze and Free Fall (Kamikaze and Freefall)
We start from a height of 12 meters and fly almost vertically down. The difference between these slides - on one of them there is a bend in the middle.
It looks like "Wave Slide", but here every ascent and descent rolls down to the exit. In the photo to the right, it is blue in the background.
Up the hill is the black hole (Up Hill-Blackhole)
Start from an altitude of 11.5 meters. Further descent and ascent and dive into the closed part of the hill. The total length is 80 meters.
A good winding fast hill, on the turns there are special screens, so that the visitor does not fly out of the gutter outside.
Tubolance (we will not even try to translate)
Very interesting slide. Start from an altitude of 11 meters, descend along a large trench to an almost vertical part, then fall down to a large long hill with an elevation along the way. The most interesting thing is to skate together on a double circle.
Such slides Russian tourists call a "toilet bowl", and the analogy is correct, here you can not argue.
Start from a height of 12.5 meters. On a closed hill, go down to the "saucer", and then fall down through the hole in the center. The total length is 72.5 meters.
Children's zone (pictured) in AquaSplash is praised by everyone. There are small slides, waterfalls, and showers from a big barrel. For children this water park suits perfectly, but just do not go broke on snacks and drinks.
