The musical and dancing fountains in El Kantaoui - this is far from an enchanting show like the Dubai fountains , nothing grandiose and a record here is not to be seen. However, this is a free attraction that can be seen at the same time as visiting the Hannibal Park , or after a busy day at the El Kantaoui Water Park , or when visiting a local MG store .
Where to find and how to get there
From the hotels in the resort area of El Kantaoui can be reached by taxi, the trip will cost 5 dinars. You can find the actual course in our review " Tunisian Dinar ", see the " Tunisian Taxi " review for the fare prices.
You can save and get on a minibus, the fare is 1 dinar per person. In this area all minibuses pass by the port without exception, you just need to sit in the right direction. Read our review " Tunisian minibuses ".
From the hotels in the resort area of Sousse you can take a taxi. Will cost from 5 to 12 dinars.
From the hotels of other resorts in Tunisia, we see no reason to go. Getting long and tiring, and fountains of El Kantaoui is not the most important and interesting attraction.
Fountains are located on a round square directly opposite the entrance to the port of El Kantaoui. The area is small - about 60 meters in diameter, the fountains themselves - about 25 meters in diameter.
Directly behind the fountains is the entrance to the amusement park Hannibal. Look at the left map of the area of the port of El Kantaoui, where you can find interesting objects for tourists, click on the map to zoom in on the whole screen.
An important point! Taxi drivers do not like to turn off and bring tourists to the port entrance. Taxi drivers and bus drivers stop at a large intersection where there is a big LED screen of Hannibal Park (the screen does not always work), this place we showed on the map in orange.
If you were brought to this place, then go straight to the park Hannibal, be guided by the high tower of the attraction "free fall". Go through the amusement park, go to the fountains. The path on the map is indicated by a red arrow.
The opening hours of fountains are constantly changing. In the photo on the right is the schedule of work in 2017. The schedule is posted on the stand near the fountains from the entrance to the port.
An interesting point is that the schedule is stated only for the period from July 1 to August 31, and this photo was taken at the end of September. The schedule for September and onwards was not hung out, and the fountains at that time worked according to the schedule: half an hour after sunset and again in an hour. That is, it was almost impossible to guess the exact time.
Our advice: as soon as you arrive at the port of El Kantaoui, go to the fountains, see the schedule, then to come to the right time.
Where to watch the show
Almost all tourists look directly from the parapet, so best seen. To take a place at a parapet in advance it is not necessary, as spectators not so it is a lot of, the place always will be.
We want to warn that the parapet is made in the form of low posts with slightly strained chains, in the dark it can easily be overlooked and fell into the water. Watch out for the children.
Many tourists are located directly on the lawn, taking out stored sandwiches or bought a number of MG beer. Drinking beer on the street in Tunisia is prohibited, but no one here pays attention.
Around there are several cafes, from where nothing is clearly visible because of the spectators on the parapet. To pay for dinner with extra charge and not see fountains is a dubious pleasure.
There are shops all around, and nothing can be seen from them either because of the spectators on the parapet. Shops should be borrowed 15-20 minutes before the show.
There are clearly positive moments
The fountains of El Kantaoui should be praised for the excellent sound quality and excellent selection of tracks. Music with the water relaxes, causing you to completely immerse yourself in the spectacle. The peaceful fountain area and the bustling park of Hannibal are only 20 meters apart and very interesting contrast.
