Insurance in Tunisia
According to the legislation of the Russian state, the tourist travel agreement, along with other documents, must include an insurance policy. Traveling abroad are great optimists (this is not bad), therefore they do not pay enough attention to the insurance conditions in the document (which is already bad). In addition to everything, the text is made in such a style that the average person in the street can not understand the meaning.
Let's try to decipher the intricate truisms of an insurance policy designed to protect a tourist outside his country.
Do not be afraid to lose time reading the insurance contract. Believe me, this process will be cognitive and fascinating.
The insurance document consists of two sections. In the first case, all insured events subject to reimbursement are posted in the form of a list. After reading the magic list to the end, you will get the feeling that the insurance company is a "miraculous" organization that will protect against any unpleasant episodes abroad.
From heaven to earth, land immediately, while reading the second section "General Exceptions." And then you understand, and visually confirm your conclusions (after all, the second section is many times larger than the first) about a skilfully compiled document. No insurance cases will be more. Familiarity with the concept of "franchise", which in itself causes unpleasant associations, at the end of the contract creates a rhetorical question: "Do you need an insurance policy in general during a voyage?"
Going to Tunisia, insurance is simply necessary, because medical care there is paid and not cheap.
Nuances of a franchise
The frightening word franchise means such a state of affairs, in which some part of the losses that have arisen is not covered by the insurer. Most often, in insurance contracts, an amount of no more than 30 US dollars is prescribed.
For example, you were made medical manipulations within 25 dollars (injections, droppers), then you can not contact the insurance company. You pay this amount yourself. If the cost of the medical services provided was more than 30 dollars (for example, 50), then you pay 30 dollars, and the remaining amount - the company-insurer.
Insurance policies with a franchise are cheaper than conventional ones. Russian tour operators therefore give them preference.
The first steps in the occurrence of an insured event
Insurance contracts prescribe a very important point, but, often, impossible to insure.
When you need help, you should first inform your insurer about this, and then wait for the insurance company to send you your "prepaid" first aid.
If you follow this paragraph in case of serious injuries, you can do harm to your health, or (God forbid!) To finish your life in a foreign land.
When providing emergency assistance, the insurer will be obliged to pay for it, but then there will likely be "disassembly" - whether this was necessary, and in many cases it happens in court.
Our advice will be simple and trivial: be extremely attentive and cautious during the overseas travel.
Cases insurance and not insurance (we guess at the coffee grounds, or read carefully the insurance policy)
In this chapter, our story will cover the insurance cases, most commonly encountered, and those moments during the trip, when the money for insurance is not paid. The terms of your insurance may be slightly different, so read what you sign.
The first episode. Fracture, bruise, dislocation in the pool in a sober state (pay attention to the last word combination). The case of insurance, call the insurer yourself or ask someone. The company must send an ambulance. But remember, alcohol intoxication and insurance payments are two things that are incompatible.
The second episode. Being on a tour, you are wounded. Stumbled over the stones in the fortress of Gazi Mustafa or decided to check the height of the Colosseum in El Jem and fell down (only from the second floor, from the third - another incident may happen, deplorable).
The insurance company is obligated to reimburse the costs, and no matter who you bought the tour from. In terms of insurance, you will not find the name of your tour operator. In order to sell the tour, some guides deceive tourists.
The third episode. If you decide to make the body ejection of adrenaline, i.e. ride on an ATV, on a "banana", swoop on a parachute over the sea surface, then you know - when getting injured during such lessons, insurance is not paid. For such lessons, sports insurance is purchased, which is bought by the tour organizer.
The fourth episode. You fell asleep in the sun, did not protect yourself with sunscreen, and as a lamentable result - a sunburn. Such cases are not compensated (this is mentioned in the insurance document). Read about this in our article " What not to do to tourists in Tunisia ."
Episode five. Your swimming in the sea was overshadowed by the bite of the marine, most importantly, not as shown in the photo on the left (click on the photo to enlarge).
Incident is not insurance. Pay attention to tourists from France, England, Germany: they prefer the pool to the seashore. Thoughtful and hospitable foreigners do not want to be treated for their money.
Episode six. Problems with the teeth. Urgent treatment of a broken tooth will be an insurance event, and a toothache that requires more complicated treatment is only your problem.
Episode seven. Poisoning by food or food falls under the insured event.
Episode eighth. If a grief happened in the homeland (a close relative died), the insurance company must provide you with a ticket back. But even very serious illnesses are not a reason for paying an early return.
Episode 9 (tragic and irreparable). In case of sudden death during a trip, your relatives can only rely on free delivery of your body to your homeland.
With illnesses, the situation is as follows. Chronic and hereditary diseases do not cover the insurance document. If the illness worsened during the trip, you can count on first aid for insurance.
Before leaving the homeland, double-check the vaccinations given to you, as the illnesses acquired during the trip, from which there are vaccinations, do not fall under the insured event.
If you want your insurance to be paid by the insurance company, then stand on your own, that you are ill already on the trip. The list of diseases that are covered by insurance is small. Among others: appendicitis, viral infectious diseases. It is very difficult to prove that the disease originated in a trip, since the latent course of the disease is present in almost all the ailments. This slippery moment gives the insurers the right to refuse payments.
"Let's think for three", or each for himself
In the insurance case, there are always three parties involved: an insurer, an insured and a medical institution that has provided assistance. Two of this trio want to get money, only the insurer does not want to give them. Let's give some advice for the decision on payment in favor of the insured.
Do not "shine" your cash in the clinic. Her employees prefer paying real and short-term - your own money.
If you understand that you will not pay, the clinic will be interested in recognizing the case as insurance, in order to get payment for its services from the insurer. For example, they will close their eyes and will not record the presence of alcohol in their blood (and such cases have been repeated many times).
Never admit to having money with you. When making an insurance policy, state with assurance that your case is an insurance policy. So you will avoid deception.
The trip did not take place - the consequences
In the usual travel insurance document, the procedure for refunding money is indicated in case the insured is unable to go on a trip.
In this case, the reason should be weighty: the death of close relatives or their serious illness, you were denied entry visa (the reason for the refusal should not be dependent on you). In the policy this moment should be registered.
However, Russian tour operators are inclined to issue documents in the last days before the trip. The trick of this move is illustrated by an example. You have purchased a ticket a month before the trip, and two weeks before you go on a trip there are circumstances (say, a relative's illness), because of which the voyage is canceled. Insurance policy you do not have, and the tour operator does not have it (not yet purchased and not decorated). Without a policy number, payment for a ticket is not possible. Is it offensive? Of course! But this is the tourist business in Russia.
This is one of the compelling reasons for the decline in sales of package tours. It is more advantageous to go on a journey to other states independently and not be afraid to lose money.
As they say, informed - it means forewarned. Do not think about the bad during the trip and the bad to you does not "hang on". Read our articles about Tunisia and keep abreast of all the nuances of recreation in this country ( links below ).
