There are only three museums on the island of Djerba in Tunisia. The Guellala Museum does not have a large collection of archaeological artifacts, it is rather ethnographic, here the figures of people in full growth show scenes from the life of the Djerbians.
If you want to see artifacts, then you have to choose between the Museum of Art and popular Djerba traditions in Houmt Souk (the capital of the island) or the Lell Hadriya museum. Or you can not choose, and take a taxi and go to both, good Djerba - the island is small.
The first is considered more interesting, after all the central museum of the region. Beautiful models show visually Djerbian architecture, a collection of ancient ceramics fascinating.
But the museum described in this review by Lella Hadriya has its advantage - a convenient location for tourists.
Where is the museum of Lella Hadrija
The museum is one of the three parts of the Djerba Explore theme park, the other two parts are Crocodile Farm and Djerba Heritage Village Heritage .
Djerba Explore Park was specially created for tourists, and its location was selected accordingly - right in the center of the tourist zone of Djerba Island, this area we highlighted green on the map to the left.
Djerba Explore is a popular destination for organized excursions, and most Russian tourists visit this place as part of the groups.
Many people who came here, exclaim: "It was easier to take a taxi, went from the hotel for 5 minutes" or even "Yes, we could walk here on foot." To avoid being among them, read the following information.
How to get there
Some hotels can be reached on foot. We are not going to list these hotels, but simply recommend to refer to Google maps, because you already got a general idea of the location of the Djerba Explore park on the island of Djerba from our map.
The easiest way to get there by taxi, Tunisian taxi drivers take inexpensively - a trip from the most distant hotel of the tourist zone will cost no more than 15 Tunisian dinars .
As we have already said, most Russian tourists prefer an organized tour, which includes visiting the Djerba Explore park and the village of Erriad , where 150 artists from different countries painted 250 paintings on the houses. This tour has an important feature.
Important information for shoppers
During the tour, guides often do not even mention the museum, there is simply no time to visit. The group passes the museum past, and the guide says: "Here the museum, if there is time, stop by, look."
Time for tourists is not. At 16-00 fed crocodiles, then you need to defend the turn to take pictures with small crocodiles, and at 16-45 (plus or minus five minutes) the sightseeing bus is already leaving for the village of Erriad.
Guides can be understood, as 90% of tourists are only interested in crocodiles. In museums, most of the tourists are interested in weapons, armor, ornaments and other colorful objects, which Lella Hadriya does not have much. In the photo on the right you can see the only showcase with weapons.
However, to have time to see the museum during the tour all the same you can. To do this, you need to either skip photographing with crocodiles, or do it as quickly as possible, hitting the queue for this attraction one of the first. In our article " Crocodile Farm on Djerba " we wrote about how it can be done.
The price of the ticket and how to buy it, the cost of excursions
Arriving at the Djerba Explore park, you pass the tourist market and you see the museum building in front of you, in which the letters "Lalla Hadria Museum" are written in large letters. Photos of this building can be seen at the beginning of this article.
Enter the building and see the cashier. An adult ticket costs 15 dinars, a child ticket costs 8 dinars. Tickets are shown on the left. With an orange strip - an adult, with a green - a child.
Please note that this is a combined ticket to all three parts of Djerba Explore Park. You can not buy a separate ticket to the museum either, as you can not buy individual tickets to Crocodile Farm or Djerba Heritage.
However, at the entrance to the exposition of the museum tickets no one checks, you can go for free. Immediately after the ticket office, turn to the right and go through the exhibits.
The price of the excursion is from 20 to 35 dollars per adult and from 10 to 17 per child (from 2 to 12 years).
How long does it take to inspect and how to plan
If you travel to the Djerba Explore park on your own, we recommend arriving around 13:30. Large excursion groups start arriving around 14:30, and you can catch Djerba Heritage (Heritage Village) in such a way as not to meet with them.
Next, go to the Crocodile farm, see the feeding of crocodiles at 16:00, take pictures with crocodiles and afterwards go to the museum. You are not limited in time, unlike tourists on excursions.
Before the closing of the museum there will be at least an hour, you will have time to look all without haste.
From the beginning of June to the end of September - from 9:00 to 19:00.
From early October to the end of May - from 9:00 to 18:00.
What is the value of the museum, besides exhibits
- There is a toilet in the museum building, including for people with disabilities.
- The building has air conditioning, which saves in hot weather.
The museum of Lell Hadriya consists of 15 rooms. In total, more than 1000 exhibits are exhibited here, there are collected finds from all Djerba and for the island the figure is impressive, because Djerba has never been the center of civilization.
The official website says: "The most impressive collection is made up of 1000 pieces, the richest in the country", in translation: "the richest collection in the country". Here the organizers of the museum Lella Hadriya themselves clearly over-praised, the collection of the Museum of Carthage and the Museum of Bardot much more.
There are no outstanding items in the exposition, which can be interesting to tell, so just see the gallery below.
