Where to go in Tunisia
Each tourist needs to rest on their own. Someone has enough beach and a deckchair, someone is looking for entertainment, someone is interested to see the sights of the country, and some have enough bar on the AI system.
For this reason, it is impossible to recognize any of the resorts in Tunisia the best. Each resort has its pros and cons. We will evaluate the Tunisian resorts in 8 parameters, you can say "nominations". And each will have its own leaders and outsiders. Estimates will be given according to the usual five-point scale.
Resorts of Tunisia
In this article, we will compare resorts, but do not talk about them in detail. Map of Tunisia with the designation of major resorts and airports can be found in our review " Map of Tunisia with resorts ".
About each major resort, we have a detailed article on the site, read the descriptions of the resorts: Sousse , El Kantaoui , Hammamet , Yasmine Hammamet , Nabeul , Gammarth , Monastir , Mahdia , Djerba , Zarzis .
Nomination 1 - Quality of beaches
Everywhere in Tunisia the beaches are sandy, the sand is soft and pleasant (see the photo on the right, click on the photo to enlarge). Only on the island of Djerba in the sand there are stones, for this reason Djerba deserved a lower rating.
"Quartet" deserved the resort area of Yasmine Hammamet because the beaches, even the hotels of the first line here are across the road. Drivers in Tunisia traffic rules either do not like, or do not know, or do not fulfill in principle, the Tunis road is always dangerous, as we discussed in detail in the article " Dangers for tourists in Tunisia ."
The quality of the beach may differ from the hotel to the hotel. In some hotels, the beach is quickly cleaned of algae and traces of visitors, in some of the cleaning of the beach is forgotten. Read reviews about the hotel of interest.
Especially tourists are annoyed by the results of horses and camels, with which enterprising Tunisians go and offer tourists pictures. Good hotels do not let these people and their pets go to their beaches. Again, read reviews about hotels.
Nomination 2 - Wealth of choice of hotels
There are resorts with dozens of hotels for every taste and purse, and it happens that hotels can be counted with the fingers of one hand. In any case, a large choice is good, healthy competition has never harmed the market.
The leaders in the assortment of hotels in Tunisia are Djerba, Hammamet and Yasmine Hammamet, Sousse and El Kantaoui.
In the outsiders Nabeul where only 12 hotels, among them there is not one "five". There are only 11 hotels in Gammarth and 8 "fives" among them.
In Mahdia, a balanced choice of hotels, but there are only a couple of dozen here. In Zarzis, hotels of different price levels are approximately equal, but only 9 pieces.
In Tunisia, there are resort areas with an even smaller choice - Gabes, Sedria or Guilette, but they did not get on our lists at all because of the tiny sizes.
Nomination 3 - Proximity to the airport
In North Tunisia, two air ports accept charter flights with Russian tourists - it's Anfida Airport and Monastir Airport. In advance it is impossible to predict in which of them the flight will fly. The time of the trip between the airports and all the resorts we cited in the review " Map of Tunisia with the resorts ".
Suppose you bought a package tour to the hotel Monastira. Go some 10 minutes from the airport of Monastir, but if the flight lands in Enfid, you will have to travel longer than an hour. You will not guess. In addition, tour operators sometimes carry flights, and buy a ticket with an arrival at one airport, and you fly into another.
For this reason, near the airport, we can estimate only two resorts: Djerba and Zarzis, which are located in Southern Tunisia, where there is only one airport.
We will not take stock of Hammarth's assessment. On the one hand, it is very far from the airports of Monastira and Enfida. On the other hand, Gammarth is very close to the capital airport, where charters from Russia are rare, but arrive. Again, you will not guess.
Nomination 4 - Entertainment for children
The unequivocal leaders in this category are El Kantaoui and Sousse. There are two water parks - AquaSplash and Acqua Palace , a good amusement park Hannibal Park .
Another option for the "five" is the Gammarth resort, which is located in the suburbs of the capital. Taking a taxi, you can quickly get to all the local entertainment centers - Carthage Land Les Berges du Lac, Happy Land Park and others. Children will be delighted with the huge assortment of still unknown to them sweets and sweets in the hypermarkets Carrefour or Auchan-MG.
Also good options - Hammamet, Yasmine Hammamet and Nabeul thanks to the proximity of the Flipper water park and the Carthage Land park (pictured nearby, click on the photo to enlarge). Another option for the "four" is Djerba with the famous crocodile farm .
The most boring resort for children is clearly recognized as Zarzis. There are no children's entertainment, except that seashells on the beach to collect, and shells are rare.
Nomination 5 - Proximity to top attractions
The most important and / or popular attractions of Tunisia are Carthage , Sidi Bou Said (pictured on the right, click to enlarge), Bardo Museum , El-Jem Amphitheater and Phrygia Zoo .
The leader in this nomination is Gammarth resort, less than half an hour's taxi ride to Carthage, Sidi Bou Said and Bardo Museum.
A good position at Yasmin Hammamet, Hammamet and Nabel, where you can get to the capital in about an hour with an excursion or by yourself on the bus, Phrygia Zoo is very close.
Sousse and El Kantaoui are located far from the capital. With an excursion to go more than 2 hours, by train itself even longer, about which read our review " By train from Sousse to the capital ." But Sousse and El Kantaoui are close to El Jem and Phrygia Zoo, which gives them a "four".
Mahdia and Monastir can only boast of proximity to El Jem. Djerba and Zarzis are located very far from the top attractions, but there are many interesting places for tourists here.
Nomination 6 - Local Attractions
Implies those attractions, which can be reached by taxi or public transport for 20 minutes or faster.
In the leaders of Djerba, the island is small, here all the sights are considered local - El Griba synagogue , Djerba Explore park , Guellala museum, DjerbaHood project (in the photo on the right, click to enlarge).
Also in the leaders of Sousse and El Kantaoui, where you can see the famous Archaeological Museum and the medina of Sousse , Sissa rebate , the Great Mosque .
Gammarth was also included in the list of the best, because for this resort local are Carthage and Sidi Bou Said.
In Monastir you can see the mausoleum of Habib Bourguiba and Monastir's Ribat , but all this will last for one day. In Hammamet, Yasmine and Nabeul, you can go to the medina of Hammamet or to Sebastian's villa , and this will also be enough for one day's rest. For these reasons, all these resorts received only the "four".
In Mahdia, you can see the old forts, the Fish Market and the Black Gate, but that's enough for half a day. In Zarzis there is a good museum of archeology and several interesting mosques, this will be enough for half a day.
Nomination 7 - Nightlife
Of course, Tunisia is not a country of nightclubs and noisy discos, it's not Ibiza. However, some night life institutions are worthy of a one-time visit.
The leaders are Hammamet, Yasmin and Nabeul. It is here that the most famous nightclubs are located - Calypso Club (in the photo next, click to enlarge), El Pacha Club, Jimmy's Disco and others. Gammarth is good for night fun, it's easy to get to the capital's clubs Le Carpe Diem or Le Boeuf sur le Toit by taxi.
"Four" gets the island of Djerba, which was once considered the most "tusovochnym" place. Now establishments Le Cyclone, Palm Beach NightClub, Salsa Disco and La CASA are working, but have not been "crammed to the eye" for a long time. A similar situation in Sousse and El Kantaoui, Discoteque Platinium and Bora Bora clubs work, but not on that scale. Opening in 2015, Hard Rock Cafe a great variety of local nightlife has not made.
In Monastir, Mahdia and Zarzis there are only small discotheques at the hotels.
Nomination 8 - Convenience for self drive
Some of the tourists themselves buy air tickets and book rooms in the hotels of Tunisia. There are few such travelers, because at the moment (note: this article was written in 2018) there are no direct regular flights between Russia and Tunisia, only charters fly.
To fly to Tunisia is possible with a transfer, and then in 99% of cases, fly to the capital Tunis-Carthage Airport. Naturally, the most convenient resort in these circumstances is Gammarth, it is very close to the capital airport. Hammamet, Yasmine or Nabel will have to go by bus.
Flights with one transfer to the airports of Djerba, Enfidy or Monastir can be found, but they are so small that we will not seriously talk about it seriously. There are variants with two transplants, when you get to the capital with one transfer, and there you will already make a second transfer to a local flight to Djerba, but these schemes are too tiring for tourists, especially with children.
We reduced the results to a single table. See it further, click to enlarge on the whole screen.
