What is the time to plan for a visit?
Go through the tunnel - 20 minutes. Swim by boat - 20-30 minutes. Zoo - not more than one hour. Your time is not limited, you can walk here all day, but more than two hours is not worth planning.
What to watch - an aquarium
As we already mentioned above, it can be viewed free of charge from the shopping center itself. All additional services are based on viewing the same aquarium, but only from a different angle.
In the underwater tunnel you will look to the aquarium from the bottom up. On a boat with a transparent bottom, on the contrary - from top to bottom. You will not see anything new.
Twice a day there is a feeding of fish. The first time at 10-00 fed the stingrays, and at 14-00 fed sharks. We recommend that you approach the aquarium by this time.
Feeding rays and sharks can be seen from the mall as well as from the tunnel. You do not need to buy a ticket for this. If you want to skip the trip to the tunnel and save money, it will not work. Any ticket to Dubai Aquarium and Underwater Zoo necessarily includes a trip to the tunnel.
What to see - the zoo
It is called Underwater Zoo ("underwater zoo"), although not all animals are underwater here, and some in general have nothing to do with water.
The zoo is divided into three thematic zones: open ocean, tropical forest and rocky coast. This division is very conditional, and it's even hard to notice. In total there are 40 aquariums and aviaries.
The most colorful inhabitant of the zoo is a giant crocodile (pictured left). It is called "King Croc". In the Arab Emirates there are no crocodiles, and it was brought here from Australia.
Australian narrow-necked crocodiles in the natural environment rarely reach a length of more than 3 meters. This individual is 5 meters long and weighs 750 kilograms. His name "King of crocodiles" he justifies all 100%.
A separate mini-exhibition shows the night animals of the UAE - fruit bats, owl-sypuh, Ethiopian hedgehogs, false cobras and Yemeni chameleons. Many of these species no longer occur in other zoos in the world. We highly recommend this exhibition.
Another mini-exhibition is called "Kraken's Lair" ("Kraken's Lair"). Naturally, the most kraken (giant deep-sea squid) you will not see. This animal is not found in any aquarium or zoo. He has not yet been able to catch anyone.
At this exhibition you can see cuttlefish, squid, octopus, nautilus and other invertebrates of marine animals.
In a separate aviary contains penguins, without them, no self-respecting zoo can not do. In the next aviary you can look at the otter - very cute and funny animals, children will be delighted.
There is a separate aquarium with piranhas, and many tourists see these famous fish for the first time here. Another aquarium is filled with jellyfish. In the beautiful backlight, they look delicious. In the next aquarium you can see a giant moray eel.
The fish in the photo on the left is another "highlight" of this zoo. This "splash", and their name deserved the fish for a reason. They hunt for insects, knocking them down with a stream of water.
It's a great luck to get a scene of splatter hunting. Wait, look, maybe you'll get lucky.
Another rare species in Dubai Underwater Zoo is the African protopter (see photo ). Outwardly this fish does not seem surprising. But the protopters also have gills and lungs at the same time. These fish are called - lungfishes.
Protopters can burrow into the sand and wait for drought for several years. They also have a very developed brain, and they give in to training. This is one of the most amazing fish on our planet.
In a separate aquarium you can see giant crabs, and in the neighborhood live many kinds of sea horses.
Dubai Underwater Zoo definitely costs its 25 dirhams.
